Day 2 (24 June 2014) in Bahir Dar, Ethiopia

I wake up early in the morning, thanks to the trouble maker Jet lag. Although the ADD airport service crew gave me a telephone number to call and follow up my luggage, no one answered my several calls. I then decided not to go to Bahir Dar airport to check if my luggage is here according to the promise I was given last night by ADD airport crews, promising to send it via the first flight today. Instead I asked the hotel reception if they can check it for me when they go airport to pick up guests so that I'll go straight to my main mission that brought me to Bahir Dar. Simply, the student that I co-supervised for the last few years made me very proud by successfully defended his PhD thesis. He has been examined by one International (from Germany) and one local (from Addis Ababa University) examiners. He of course convinced both of them and earner their 'Excellent" grade.
Everybody smiles! two examiners at the left, student at the center and his two supervisors at the right
Right after the successful completion of the PhD defense, we were taken to tour the astonishingly changing BDU different facilities. I was so stunned with the facilities that the university acquired during the last few years. One of the examiners and myself continue our tour in the afternoon, and had opportunities to see different newly constructed campuses of the university.

The newly contracted building (built in the shape of ship) for Marin institute of BDU
We concluded the day by have a celebratory dinner party organized by the department of Physics. O! Ya! my luggage, yes! the ADD airport crew kept their promises to my surprise and sent it via the first flight to Bahir Dar. The hotel crew collected for me, and the luggage was untouched. What a wonderful and successful day.

Day 1 (23 June 2014) in Bahir Dar, Ethiopia

Here I'm in Ethiopia for scientific mission, writing from Kaleb Hotel. I had good flight, except it was like rush-hour 2 movie during transit in Istanbul, Turkey. Here how, my flight from Boston delayed by more than an hour, and that left me only 50minute window to catch the next flight. Well! I did catch my connection flight but my luggage did not. That means I'm without any spare cloth. I was told it will come tomorrow at the same time. Guess what? I'm heading to Bahir Dar tomorrow afternoon for my scientific mission. The airline crew told me it will be directed to Bahir Dar by Tuesday morning (with the 7:00AM flight). Finger crossed to see that happen.
